AuthorStand Content Policy
AuthorStand is a service for written content distribution, communication, self-expression and freedom of speech. We respect our users' ownership of and responsibility for the content they choose to share and sell. It is our belief that censoring this content is contrary to our mission of allowing readers to decide what is of value. That being said, there are some guidelines we need to follow to ensure that this service will continue to be available and of use to authors and the reading public.
Please note that when applying the policies below, we may make exceptions based on artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific considerations or where there are other substantial benefits to the public from not taking action on the content.
Adult Content: If you are offering works that involve graphic sexual descriptions or content they must be listed in the "Erotica" section of the site. If works are reported and found to have been listed in an improper category they will either be moved to the appropriate category or removed from the site. In addition, we do not allow graphic text content that depicts or encourages incest or bestiality.
Child safety: We have a zero tolerance policy towards content that exploits children. Some examples of this include:
• Child pornography: We will terminate the accounts of any user we find publishing or distributing child pornography, in photo or text form. We may also report that user to law enforcement if laws have been broken.
• Pedophilia: We do not allow content that encourages or promotes sexual attraction towards children. AuthorStand will, in it's sole discretion, decide what constitutes "inappropriate content" in the area.
Hate Speech & Inciting of Violence: We want you to use AuthorStand to publish your works, even very controversial ones. However, don't cross the line by publishing hate speech. By this, we mean content that promotes hate or violence towards groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity. We understand that conflict is a main driving force in most plot lines and fiction can have controversial themes. That being said, do not threaten other people in non-fiction (or thinly veiled "fiction") works or publish content encouraging your readers to take violent action against another person or group of people.
Copyright: It is our policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement. More information about our copyright procedures can be found at www.AuthorStand.com/copyright. Do not post works that have been copied from other sources, in whole or in part, without first obtaining consent from the copyright owner. If you have obtained consent to reproduce content owned by another copyright holder state that permission on the copyright page of your work.
Titles: Titles appear in more accessible places on the site and in AuthorStand advertising than the descriptions and full text of listed works, thus they require more stringent oversite. Titles which contain profane, vulgar or any language deemed offensive may have the offending language expurgated from the "title" area, either temporarily while the work is showing in a highly accessible section of the site or permanently, at the sole descretion of the AuthorStand editorial staff.
Public Domain Works: Do not post public domain works to your author account. AuthorStand.com is designed to give readers access to works for which you hold the copyright. Posting of Public Domain works will lead to massive amounts of duplication and clog the system. AuthorStand.com reserves the right to regulate and control the posting of Public Domain works on the site.
Personal and confidential information: It's not ok to publish another person's personal and confidential information. For example, don't post someone else's credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, unlisted phone numbers, and driver's license numbers. Also, please keep in mind that in most cases, information that is already available elsewhere on the Internet or in public records is not considered to be private or confidential under our policies.
Impersonating others: Please don't mislead or confuse readers by pretending to be someone else or pretending to represent an organization when you don't. You are welcome to post your works under a pseudonym, however we can only disperse monies to actual legal entities, either personal or business.
Illegal activities: Don't use AuthorStand to engage in illegal activities or to promote dangerous and illegal activities. Otherwise, we may revoke your account. Also, in serious cases such as those involving the abuse of children, we may report you to the appropriate authorities.
Advertising: If you are offering a work that is solely advertising for or promotion of your business be sure to place it only in the Promotional Items category.
Malware and viruses: Do not upload any files of a type other than ebooks in approved formats, especially malware or viruses.
