1. What will it cost me to list my books for sale on AuthorStand.com?
Nada. Zip. Zero. Your Author Member account is FREE and takes less than a minute to set up. Sign up now!

2. Do I get to keep 100% of my publishing rights?
Yes. You keep 100% of your publishing rights. AuthorStand.com is a publication distribution website, allowing readers access to the works that you make available and makes no claims of right to publish any of the works available.

3. What do I get paid if someone downloads my book?
You set the price for your work. Keep in mind that as an unknown author, it is likely that you will not be able to charge the same amount for your work as a traditionally published book (yet!). You will get to keep 75% of the sales price after your initial 25¢ fee is subtracted.

For example, if you sold a book priced at $4.25, the payout would be calculated as ($4.25 - 25¢) x 75% = $3.00.
Other fees may apply if additional services are selected.

4. How do I list my work (short story, novel, non-fiction, poetry, etc.) on AuthorStand.com?
Listing your book for sale on AuthorStand is easy. When you register as an AuthorStand Member, you'll be taken to the "Your Listings" tab. Click the "Add a book" button and you will be taken through a simple process showing you how to add your book. Be sure to also fill in the "Author Profile" tab. This will create your AuthorStand Author Profile page, which you can edit at any time.

How do I get my work in the right PDF format?

Currently all uploaded files must be in PDF format. There are a number of free sites online that will convert other file types to a PDF for you. You can find many of them by searching for "free doc to pdf converter" on Google. Some are programs you can download for free, while others will convert your file to a PDF using a free online interface.

Here are a few examples of what is available online. AuthorStand is not affiliated with any of these companies, in any way.

5. How do you keep my work from being stolen?
If you are worried about keeping your work locked and only usable by the person who purchased the download, we may soon be offering digital rights management through Adobe Digital Editions for a small fee. However, if you are truly trying to use AuthorStand.com to launch a writing career, it will be more beneficial for you to allow the download files to remain open and able to be shared. For more information on why we recommend not locking your download file, please read "Why NOT to Protect Your eBook Files."

6. Can I update a book after I put it on AuthorStand.com?
You have full control over your inventory listed on AuthorStand.com. You will be able to edit any work at any time.

7. Can I put pictures in my book?
Yes! PDF files support pictures, but keep in mind that the pictures may not view the same in all types of eReaders.

8. Can I remove my books from AuthorStand.com?
Yes. (Of course we don't recommend that!) We are simply a distributor. If you decide that you no longer wish for your books to be listed on AuthorStand.com, simply delete each one on the Your Listings tab while signed in to your AuthorStand account.
 

FAQ for Readers

1. How exactly does the AuthorStand.com website work?
AuthorStand.com works like many other retail websites on the internet. Each title on the site is a "product." When you find something you'd like to read, simply click the "Add to Cart" button. Once you've made your choices, click the "Checkout" button. If the total cost of your purchases is $0 you will NOT have to put in a credit card. Simply confirm your order and proceed to the order details page where there will be links to download the ebooks you've selected in PDF format!

2. What formats are available for download?
Currently all works are available in PDF format, which is compatible with the majority of eReaders and any computer with Adobe Acrobat Reader and many other programs. If you'd prefer the books in another format, please give us your feedback at admin@authorstand.com.

3. Where do you get the books on AuthorStand.com?
The books on our site come from the AuthorStand community itself! Anyone who has written a book or owns the copyright on a written work can place it for sale on AuthorStand. For more information, see our FAQ for Authors at the top of this page.

4. What if I want a printed version of an AuthorStand.com book?
Printed copies are not currently available for the books on AuthorStand, but that may change in the near future. If you're interested in printed copies of AuthorStand works, let us know at admin@authorstand.com.

5. Do you edit or approve the content in the books?
We never edit the books on AuthorStand, however, there are some types of material that we do not allow on our site. For details, please see our specific Content Policy.

6. How does the Rating system work?
If you are a registered member on AuthorStand.com, you can rate any book that you have read. The rating displayed is the average rating from all opinions that have been offered. Each member can only rate each work once.
